Each year our the HFTP Colorado Front Range Chapter raises
money for the Student Scholarship Fund. The money is raised
through voluntary contributions on the membership application/renewal.
The annual scholastic award is for a minimum of $500. The
scholarship money is awarded at the beginning of the fall
term to a designated hospitality industry student to help
with tuition fees, books and supplies.
The Scholarship Committee has elected member Kim Tranter,
professor at Johnson & Wales University - Denver as Chairperson.
If you are interested in joining this committee, please contact
Kim at

Over the past four years we have donated about $5,300 to future
hoteliers. We have one year remaining on our five-year donation
to Mr. John R. Dienhart, Chairman, Department of Hospitality
and Marsha Tuttle Morstad, Director of Development at Metro
State. We will award the final $1,100 in 2004.
Metropolitan State College was chosen because of their excellent
Hospitality School, in addition to the large enrollment of
Colorado residents - over 80% of the graduates remain in the
Denver area for employment. The average tuition of $3600.00
was an additional consideration, as our modest scholarship
will have a meaningful benefit for these students.
Looking ahead, we will manage the scholarship program in-house
and it will be available to any qualified student at any Colorado
college or university with a hospitality program. We will
target students with a declared Hospitality Major, with an
emphasis in finance or information systems. We will give extra
consideration to those students currently employed in the
industry, or with family members employed in the industry.
There are many opportunities to contribute to the program
including soliciting applicants, corporate donations and assisting
with the award process. Please contact Kim if you are interested.
